A bone density test is done to assess how strong or weak your bones are. The internal architecture of bones becomes weak due to many factors and can break causing disfigurement, immobility and even death.
Take this simple questionnaire to see if you are at risk for osteoporosis and should be tested. DEXA is the gold standard for the detection of osteoporosis as described by the International Society for Clinical Densitometrists (ISCD). Our techs and interpreting physicians maintain ISCD certification.
The osteoporosis exams we do are as follows:
Spine and Hip
The spine and least dominant hip are tested because most osteoporotic fractures occur these sites.
Forearm
If your spine is compressed or scoliotic, curved, the forearm is tested.
VFA/IVA Vertebral Fracture
Assessment is a test done to evaluate the spine in a lateral or side view to see if compression has occurred.
