Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)

X-ray of the uterus, fallopian tubes and surrounding area.

Uterus and Fallopian TubesA hysterosalpingogram, HSG, allows us to look inside the uterus with flow of contrast thru the fallopian tubes. Fertility and infertility are confirmed with this test. We use a fluoroscope which is an X-ray in motion. A contrast dye is introduced into the uterus and then visually followed thru the fallopian tubes to make sure they are open. The possibility of pregnancy is confirmed through this exam.

In the case of the Post Essure, a procedure that closes the fallopian tubes, the doctor wants to know that the procedure was successful. In this case, fallopian tubes are permanently closed to prevent pregnancy.
