Preparing for your Exam

Patient instructions before procedures.

 

Image of PatientsCertain procedures and exams done at Imaging El Paso require the need for patients to follow some simple instructions before arriving on the day of their appointment. The following procedures listed below require preparation before arrival.  Please look at the list closely. If your procedure is not listed below, then it requires no preparation. If you have any questions about the preparation of your specific procedure, please give us a call at (915) 545-2273 or fill out our contact form with any questions.

 

The following procedures require preparation, those not listed do not require any preparation.

  • Pelvic Ultrasound 
     A pelvic ultrasound looks at internal structures below the belly button. To prepare for the exam, please drink 2, 8 oz. glasses of water 45 minutes prior to the exam.
  • Abdominal Ultrasound 
    An abdominal ultrasound looks at internal structures below the ribcage and above the belly button. To prepare for this test, fasting is necessary. Please, nothing by mouth after 12 pm the night before the exam.
  • Digital Mammography
    To prepare for this test, please, do not use deodorant, lotion, powder, or perfume in or around the breast or underarm area on the day of your exam.
  • Bone Density Test
    Please do not take your calcium supplement on the day of your exam.  If you have had a barium study or a study where you have to swallow a contrast medium, please wait 3 - 4 days to have your bone density test done.
