Q.

What is better a mammogram or an ultrasound?

A.

Mammograms and Ultrasounds are very different and show different kinds of tissue patterns.  Mammograms can show nodules, calcifications, skin thickening and tissue distortions.  Ultrasounds show visible nodular densities, ductal dilatation and cysts in the breast.  Many times it is important to have both studies done because of these differences.  A test result can be mammogram negative and still show a possible cancer in the ultrasound exam and vise versa.
